Our Handmade Home Tour on HGTV

1 min read

Back in September of 2019 I moved to Austin, TX from San Francisco, CA for work. Emil visited soon after I moved, and we both fell in love with the city together. Soon after, in March of 2020, Emil arrived for his second Austin visit, and a week later, the pandemic lockdowns were enacted. We had an immigration lawyer at the time, because our overseas wedding in Cornwall was meant to take place that July (it was later cancelled thanks to COVID, and we got married via a Zoom wedding in our living room instead 😃), and we wanted to make sure we did everything right in terms of green cards and making it so that Emil could legally live and work in the U.S. once we were married.

Once word was announced about lockdowns, our immigration lawyer told us that either we could do lockdowns in our respective countries, unsure as to when we'd get to see each other again, OR we could take a chance, convert his tourist visa into a fiancé visa, get married, and try living together in lockdowns. We pretty excitedly chose the latter.

Once he was settled, we decorated our apartment together, filling it with goodies from our travels, secondhand finds and vintage pieces — and then we were lucky enough to be featured in HGTV's Handmade Home (video feature below)! I even wrote an accompanying piece for it that now lives on HGTV.com.

Our style has changed quite a bit since this home tour, but it's lovely to see the gradual evolution nonetheless.
